Jaeger LeCoultre

The steel DeepSea Alarm ref. E857

€42.000

Extremely rare and charming steel DeepSea Alarm ref. E857, manufactured in 1959.

Historically important in context and technically innovative for the time, the LeCoultre Deep Sea Alarm was the first automatic diver’s wristwatch with an alarm function.
Introduced in 1959, it was only produced until 1962, leading to a total of 1.061 examples manufactured.

The first dive watch from Jaeger-LeCoultre, and hot on the heels of the success of other early 1950s diver’s watches, the Deep Sea Alarm incorporated the "Memovox" alarm complication to set it apart.

The alarm would inform the diver when it was time to return to the surface, rather than using a rotating bezel, making it the first diving watch ever with alarm.

It was produced in two iterations: one signed "LeCoultre" for the American market, and the other with dial signed "Jaeger-LeCoultre" for the European market. The LeCoultre version represents the rarer variant.

The present example, is from 1959 the first year of production.
The beautifully aged dial and bezel improves the charme of the hole timepiece reminding us its history and that it was a tool-watch used to dive.

The extreme rarity and aesthetics of reference E857 definitely make it a trophy watch for discerning collectors.
